Greg Beck
Director
Born in Invercargill and raised in Christchurch, Greg attended St. Andrews College and Otago University before commencing his accountancy career with KPMG, Christchurch office. He specialised in audit assurance, as well as liquidations/receiverships and completed a secondment to KPMG Washington D.C. and later on he undertook an assignment in St Petersburg and Moscow, Russia. After six years with KPMG, He worked in NZ national corporate environments in the insurance and retail industries before commencing in public practice as Beck and Associates in 1999 at Riccarton Road, Christchurch.
Greg has nearly 40 years accountancy, taxation and audit assurance experience, including issuer financial reporting, business startups, business planning/development and structures, business valuations, cashflow and budget forecasting and business mentoring. He is committed to helping clients achieve their goals in business. Since 1993 he developed an interest in forestry, and operates and manages a number of commercial forests in Canterbury and North Otago. Greg is a passionate director in an issuer Forestry company reporting to approximately 800 individual shareholders since 1999.
Outside of work Greg loves sport and outdoors. He enjoys boating & fishing as often as possible and classic and vintage cars as a hobby. Greg is married to Angela and they enjoy travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Victor Zoubkov
Associate & Practice Manager
Victor grew up in Timaru and attended Timaru Boys High School, then after a stint in Dunedin completed Otago University with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance and a Post Graduate Diploma in Finance. He joined the Beck & Associates team in 2007.
With almost two decades of experience Victor has a broad range of expertise in business services, advisory and taxation, including financial reporting, business start-ups, business planning and structuring, assisting with business financing, business sales, business valuations, trusts, cashflow forecasting and budgeting for our clients. Victor works closely with the accounting staff to develop their technical skills and knowledge. He also enjoys working with non-profit organisations and is a committed board member of Christchurch United Football Club.
Outside of work Victor enjoys spending time with his family, sports and outdoor pursuits such as keeping fit, surfing, camping and fishing.
Murray Mowat
Consultant
Born in Dunedin and raised in Christchurch, Murray attended Christchurch Boys High School and Canterbury University before commencing his accountancy career at Laurenson, Green & Matthewson in 1970, then he moved to Bullock, Taylor and Sheldon before starting his own accountancy practice at 4 Riccarton Road, Christchurch in 1980.
Murray has extensive accounting and taxation experience working closely with small and medium sized businesses for nearly 55 years, specialising in the Horse Racing industry and non-profit sporting clubs.
Outside the office Murray has enjoyed long and successful cricket and soccer careers and is widely known in sporting circles in Canterbury. Murray remains an avid golfer and continues to play both regularly and competitively.
Alena Mikhelson
Accountant
Alena completed her Accountancy and taxation studies at Ara Institute of Canterbury before joining Beck & Associates team in 2017. She enjoys assisting our clients meeting their compliance requirements and has gained broad accounting and taxation experience working closely with small and medium sized businesses including financial reporting, analysing financial transactions and all aspects of taxation. She is proficient in using both MYOB and Xero accounting software including being a Xero certified consultant.
Outside of work Alena has a passion for fitness and dancing. She enjoys keeping fit at the Gym, Hiking and Dancing Argentine Tango.
Ana Mitchell
Accountant
Ana enjoys working with clients, helping them find effective solutions meeting their compliance requirements with all aspects of taxation
Outside of work Ana enjoys walking in nature reserves with her kids, singing, and has a passion for volleyball.
John Sheard
Contractor Accountant
John has an extensive background in accounting and assurance services having worked as a Chartered Accountant in a variety of businesses in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. After initially being employed by KPMG, in assurance services, John went on to various roles within the Retail, Manufacturing, Telecommunications and Charities sectors. John has provided contract accountancy and assurance services to Beck & Associates since 2004. His main focus in more recent times is providing Accountancy and Issuer Reporting Services.
In his spare time John is an avid reader and a keen golfer and walker when his body permits.
Julie Pateman
Receptionist/Administrator
Julie is the friendly, warm and welcoming face at our reception who greets our clients. She joined Beck and Associates in 2014 and is responsible for the day to day running of the office, client maintenance and book keeping, client payroll processing, client records/archives, data entry and general office administration.
Outside of work Julie loves spending time with her family, friends and walking her beautiful dog.
